National Theatre at Home: The Wind in the Willows
In 2020, London’s lauded National Theatre launched its own streaming service featuring professional stage captures of its productions. While you can buy a subscription, shows are also available to rent individually. New to the roster is the heartwarming family musical Wind in the Willows, based on Kenneth Grahame’s charming children’s novel about the wild adventures of a quartet of countryside friends: Mole, Rat, Toad and Badger. Recorded live onstage at the London Palladium in 2017, this show was written by the team behind the juggernaut Mary Poppins stage adaptation. A 72-hour rental costs $10 and captions are available. Stratford Festival: The Merry Wives of Windsor
Canadian stage and screen star Geraint Wyn Davies plays Falstaff in Shakespeare’s raucous but rarely produced comedy Merry Wives of Windsor. The Bard penned the play to capitalize on the popularity of the over-the-top Falstaff as he attempts to woo two witty wives who get the better of him. Antoni Cimolino directs this romp, which was recorded live onstage at Stratford in 2019.
