Even though in-person theatre and dance are back in full swing, in the name of accessibility we’re continuing to round up performances to watch online from the comfort of home. Our curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, March 21 to Sunday, March 23, for free or at low cost.

National Theatre at Home: The Other Place

Begins streaming Thursday, March 20 for $10.

In 2020, London’s lauded National Theatre launched its own streaming service featuring professional stage captures of its productions. While you can buy a subscription, shows are also available to rent individually. New to the roster is The Other Place, Alexander Zeldin’s riveting, well-reviewed riff on Sophocles’ tragedy Antigone, as a modern-day family grapples with grief after the patriarch dies from suicide. Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Alison Oliver (Saltburn) and The Crown‘s Tobias Menzies star. A 72-hour rental costs $10 and captions are available. It’s just one of many fantastic National Theatre shows you can stream, so be sure to browse the entire list.

PBS Great Performances at the Met: Grounded

Airing on TV on PBS Thirteen on Friday, March 21 at 9 p.m. ET for FREE. Not available to stream.

Inspired by George Brant’s acclaimed play of the same name, Grounded features music by two-time Tony-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Kimberly Akimbo, Fun Home). Mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo stars as a fighter pilot who gets pregnant and is forced to trade the cockpit for a drone. Her life upended, she struggles to accept her new reality as a soldier, a wife and a mom. Tony winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) directs this powerful opera, which was recorded live onstage at the Met last fall. Can’t watch on Friday? See when it’s airing on other PBS channels.

Theater in Quarantine: [Untitled Miniature]

During the pandemic shutdown, Joshua William Gelb’s wildly innovative Theater in Quarantine live-streamed original productions from a closet-turned-studio in his East Village apartment, winning him many fans and an Obie Award. For his latest hybrid work at HERE in Soho, Gelb stuffs himself in a small rectangular box, mirroring the way we experience the world through our screens, and invites in-person audiences to observe him from all uncomfortable angles. A meditation on our codependent relationship with technology, this 45-minute show is also available to watch from home. The live-stream options is $36 but you can opt to view a recording for just $11.50.
