Even though in-person theatre and dance are back in full swing, in the name of accessibility we’re continuing to round up performances to watch online from the comfort of home. Our carefully curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, January 26 to Sunday, January 28, for free or at low cost.

Lypsinka: Toxic Femininity

Lip-syncing drag icon Lypsinka, the glamorous alter ago of actor John Epperson, teamed up with director Chloë Sevigny for the new short Toxic Femininity presented by The New Group. Set to words of stardom spoken by Judy Garland and Joan Crawford, it’s a hilarious examination of the fickle nature of fame.

Red Bull Theater: The Revenge

NYC’s Red Bull Theater, which revitalizes undersung classics, presented an in-person reading of The Revenge on Monday and you can watch a recording through Sunday. Lauded classical actor John Douglas Thompson stars in Edward Young’s 1721 play about an enslaved prince who hatches a plan to turn his master against his mistress. Nathan Winkelstein directs this Othello-esque thriller.

Live From 54 Below: Sondheim Unplugged

Live-streaming on Sunday, January 28 at 7 p.m. ET for $28.50.

Live From 54 Below: Miki Abraham: Somewhere That’s Blue

Live-streaming on Sunday, January 28 at 9:45 p.m. ET for $28.50.

National Theatre at Home: Yerma

In 2020, London’s lauded National Theatre launched its own streaming service featuring professional stage captures of its productions. While you can buy a subscription, shows are also available to rent individually. New to the roster is Yerma, playwright-director Simon Stone’s radical modern-day reinvention of Lorca’s classic tragedy. Billie Piper earned raves on both sides of the pond and a 2017 Olivier Award for her searing performance as a woman identified simply as Her, a successful journalist in her thirties trying to have a child with her partner. But, thanks to a no-holds-barred blog and multiple rounds of IVF, her quest to give birth leads her down a destructive path, and she ends up alienating everyone around her as she sinks into despair. A 72-hour rental costs $10 and captions are available. It’s just one of many fantastic National Theatre shows you can stream, so be sure to browse the entire list.
