PBS Great Performances at the Met: Grounded

Inspired by George Brant’s acclaimed play of the same name, Grounded features music by two-time Tony-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Kimberly Akimbo, Fun Home). Mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo stars as a fighter pilot who gets pregnant and is forced to trade the cockpit for a drone. Her life upended, she struggles to accept her new reality as a soldier, a wife and a mom. Tony winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) directs this powerful opera, which was recorded live onstage at the Met last fall.

Show Boat at Paper Mill Playhouse

Filmed live onstage at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse in 1989, this lavish revival of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II’s groundbreaking musical follows the lives of the workers on a Mississippi River attraction over four decades around the turn of the 20th century. “Ol’ Man River,” “Make Believe” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” are just some of the iconic numbers from this show, and the cast includes Tony nominees Lee Roy Reams and Eddie Bracken.
