7 Performances with Stage Stars to Watch Today, April 2
With in-person theatre out of commission for the foreseeable future, many performers are sharing their talents online. Below are performances featuring stage stars that you can watch today, Thursday, April 2, from the comfort of your couch for free.
At 2 p.m. EST, London’s National Theatre presents James Corden in One Man, Two Guvnors, which was recorded for its NT Live series. Before he became a late-night talk-show star, Corden won Tony and Olivier Awards for his riotous performance as a servant torn between two masters. Watch it for free on the theatre’s YouTube page anytime through Wednesday, April 8.
At 5 p.m. EST, director Joel Grey and the cast of his hit mounting of Yiddish Fiddler reunite for a live chat (and hopefully a song or two). Watch for free on National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s Facebook page.
At 5 p.m. EST, groundbreaking trans artist and activist Justin Vivian Bond shares their wit, wisdom and singular song stylings in Auntie Glam’s Happy Hour. It’s sure to be an entertaining and insightful time. Watch on their website for free, though tips are encouraged.
At 6:30 p.m. EST, cabaret haven Feinstein’s/54 Below continues its #54BelowatHome series with a live-streamed tribute to Whitney Houston by Soul Train Award-winning vocalist Nicole Henry. Watch for free on Feinstein’s/54 Below’s Facebook page.
At 7:30 p.m. EST, the Metropolitan Opera shares its 2010 mounting of Verdi’s Don Carlo, starring Marina Poplavskaya, Roberto Alagna, Simon Keenlyside and Ferruccio Furlanetto, and conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The production was filmed for the company’s Live in HD series, and is available to watch for 23 hours after the start time at metopera.org. You can still stream yesterday’s opera, Nixon in China, until 6:30 p.m. today.
