With in-person theatre out of commission for the foreseeable future, many performers are sharing their talents online. Below are performances featuring stage stars—including Alvin Ailey dancers and a two-time Tony winner—that you can watch today, Monday, March 30, from the comfort of your couch for free.
London’s Hampstead Theatre launches its #HampsteadTheatreAtHome series with a recording of its 2016 production of Mike Bartlett’s Wild, a pitch-black comedy inspired by the Edward Snowden saga. Watch it for free anytime between now and Sunday, April 5 on the company’s website.
At 2 p.m. EST, get ready for witty banter! Longtime collaborators and BFFs Charles Busch and Julile Halston, whose hilarious shows include The Divine Sister, Red Scare on Sunset and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, are the guests on Stars in the House. Kid theatre critic and Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage will also drop by. This twice daily series hosted by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley supports The Actors Fund, and you can watch on the organization’s YouTube channel.
At 7 p.m. EST, Yiddish theatre champion Avi Hoffman, whom we interviewed a few months back, performs his autobiographical solo show A Life in Yiddish Theatre live online. Watch for free on National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s Facebook page.
At 7:30 p.m. EST, the Metropolitan Opera shares its 2011 mounting of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, starring Starring Isabel Leonard, Adrianne Pieczonka and Karita Mattila, and conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The production was filmed for the company’s Live in HD series, and is available to watch for 23 hours after the start time at metopera.org. You can still stream yesterday’s opera, Tannhäuser, until 6:30 p.m. today.
